Aspiring sport and recreation professionals, like college basketball teams, often have resume-defining experiences that help them rise to the top. UISRM gave students the opportunity to participate in four such experiences in February. Learn about each experience and student achievements.

Women Leaders in Sports’ mission is to help more women develop, connect, champion, and advance in the industry. Learn about the organization, its partnership with UISRM, and the 27 current students who are now members because of the UISRM community’s generosity.

UISRM offers an array of benefits to students beyond an excellent classroom experience. One of the benefits UISRM is offering more and more is scholarship funding. Will McIntire transferred into the UISRM program and quickly found his footing. As a result, he has countless resume-building experiences that have positioned him for success after graduation. UISRM alumni work in the front office of each current ‘Big Five’ championship winning team. Not only that, but there are alumni at many of the runners-up as well. Learn who is at which champions and how several champions in the industry moved from student in Iowa City to their current position.

I really enjoyed...Liability in Sport and Recreation...I learned a ton about some of the rules and regulations surrounding the NCAA that prepped me for my current position very well.

I interned in the licensing departments of the University and NASCAR. Each of those experiences provided opportunities for me to learn from industry experts, while expanding my network for future career opportunities.

All three of these field trips (Chicago, Kansas City, and Indianapolis) educated me on the different careers in sports there are as well as being able to network with sports professionals.

Kara Kehe has a pair of strong bonds with UISRM: 1999 MA alum and eighth-year Lecturer in the program. As an undergraduate student at another school, a non-credit summer experience pointed her towards sport and recreation for graduate coursework at Iowa. Once in the industry, a connection with Dr. Christine Grant led to engagement with multiple projects and organizations. Kara’s commitment to facilitating similar connection and engagement for current students is behind her generosity and why she gives.
