About the Field House

The historic Field House, built in 1927, is the home of the Sport and Recreation Management program within the Department of Health and Human Physiology. In addition to hosting countless university athletic events over many decades, the Field House has long housed sport, exercise and fitness, and recreation programs for the university. The University of Iowa has one of the most exciting Division One athletics programs in the nation, with 20 varsity teams competing in the Big Ten Conference. The Field House is located on the west side of the Iowa River near Kinnick Stadium, Duane Banks Baseball Stadium, and Carver-Hawkeye Arena, and the Iowa Athletics Department serves as an invaluable learning laboratory where our students gain experience in marketing, event management, communications, and more.

New Health Sciences Academic Building is on its way

The new building, which began construction in summer 2023, will be the new home of three important university departments: Health and Human Physiology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, and Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. This six-story, $249 million facility will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach, engagement in experiential education, and cutting edge biomedical clinical community health-related research.  The building, which is currently scheduled to be completed in 2025, will also be the first to bring together the Carver College of Medicine and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
