Championships: Planning and Presentation Field Experience Opportunity

This guided field experience course provides students a first-hand experience into Championship-level athletics events. Students will be a part of various high school and collegiate level championship events, helping with programming, activities, and supporting other areas throughout the duration of their experience. 

The main partner for the class will be the Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, during which the class will take on various duties to assist the MVC in putting on a successful tournament. 

Students will:

  • Complete foundational studies including, principles of event management, project planning, facility management, hospitality and more;
  • Hear from guest speakers, engage in unforgettable experiences, all while honing their event management skills in a unique environment;
  • Earn 3 semester hours of credit toward their Sport and Recreation management field experience requirement, or they can use this unique experiential learning opportunity to enhance their resume.

Other event opportunities will include Iowa State Girls Wrestling Championship, Iowa State Boys Swimming/Diving Championship, NCAA Women's Wrestling Championship, Drake Relays, NCAA Men's Final Four Championship.

Tuesday and Thursday - 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., S118 Lindquist Center

  • Thursday March 12 - Sunday, March 15 (on-site)  (Coralville, IA)
  • Additional dates (optional):
    February 12-15, March 2-7; March 12-15, April 4-6; April 22-25. Locations include Des Moines, Iowa City, Indianapolis.

Miscellaneous information:

  • 3 semester hours
  • Anticipated course fee: $525
  • Transportation, housing, and some meals included in course fee.
